{Personal} God's Country

There's a difference between travelling and vacation. Travelling (at least in my world) is high-energy, always moving, discovering, seeing new places, experiencing new things.

Vacation, on the other hand, is rest. Relaxation. Sleep, eat and read. In large quantities. Without technology and with very few people. :)

I tend towards the travelling... at least lately. But vacation/rest is necessary sometimes. And I'm blessed to have the most restful vacation spot ever. One rustic little cabin in the heart of "God's Country." No, really! It's called "God's Country."

See? I told ya.

This is the view when we were enroute on Thursday night. Two days + two nights away from telephones, indoor plumbing and clocks. We had a minor freakout moment after arriving, when we realized that we didn't know what time it was. My response?
"I don't see this as a problem. We get up when the sun rises, we eat lunch when the sun's overhead, we eat supper when the sun sets and we sleep when it gets dark. WE ARE FREED FROM THE TYRANNY OF CLOCKS!" :) Eventually, we did figure out what time it was and how to set a clock, but the concept of not-really-caring about the time? It was quite liberating.

To me, vacation is...

Leisurely breakfasts. Catching a few zzz's in the morning sunshine. Listening to blessed silence.. and the quiet murmur of rippling waters and wind rustling through the trees. Enjoying strawberries + ice cream with toes in chilly creek waters, as deer calmly meander by the creekside. Reading, reading, reading so many books.

Creekside thinking. Stretched out on "my rock", staring at blueish cloudy skies. Grilling meat over an open fire. An acoustic guitar + scribbled new lyrics in a notebook. Reading funny stories aloud to my brother as he pulls little fish after little fish out of the creek.

Magical sunshine. Staring into dancing orange-blue flames at the campfire. Silly family jokes. Hours of quiet time. The sound of a creaking swing.

Nostalgia at a country store. Bottled soda + my favorite candy bar. Driving with the windows open, singing with abandon. Appreciating the beauty of God's creation and the gift of time to savor it all.

"The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul."
